In a Spanish shipyard near the small town of Vigo, the largest full-rigged three mast passenger ship ever built is taking shape - the next Sea Cloud.
Sea Cloud Hussar will be 135 metres long, have 27 sails equalling 4000 square metres total and will hold 136 passengers and 90 crew.
The demand for the nostalgia and romance of the traditional sailing ship experience has been enormous over the last few years and Sea Cloud is building this new ship to keep up with it. People want the old-style, golden age feeling without the old-style golden age inconvenience.
While the Sea Cloud Hussar will look picture-perfect traditional from the outside, with its teak decks and intricate rigging, it will have all modern conveniences inside, A gym and health spa on board and a technically sophisticated ‘infotainment’ system in every cabin are just some of the features that will connect passengers to the comfort of the 21st century.
The cabins will be elegantly furnished and extremely comfortable in the same style as the original Sea Cloud and her more modern sister the Sea Cloud II which was built in 2001.
If only Marjorie and Edward Hutton - the original owners of the first Sea Cloud in 1931 - were alive to see what happened since they lived out their dream of having the biggest private yacht in the world. I’m sure that they would have never imagined that it would spawn a fleet of cruise ships and river boats which have ended up as some of the world’s most luxurious passenger vessels.
The Sea Cloud Hussar is on track to be completed in September 2009 and viaggio vacations are proud to be the New Zealand agency.
